Mothers day meaning

Tomorrow is Mother’s day…it can be a day of mixed emotions ..some miss their mums as they are no longer with them….some may not yet have realised the importance of mum’s …some may not speak to their mums ..for me it’s about the role of mothering…in all it’s forms…this means many women ‘mother’ and yet have no children…

Mothering to me is nurturing and caring above and beyond and when nobody else will do!

So this may mean caring and nurturing a precious pet…a friend…a family member…

IΒ  have been very blessed to have four children…my mothering skills I learnt as I went..with my kids….you see my mum had many problems and as such was not the mentor or nurturer I needed..and yet she was ..as I learnt to make my own rules up about mothering and what it meant.

I love my mum and I know that she did her best and as all mums has had her fails and wins….but I am here I am in one piece and I have made a life I love so for thatΒ I will always be grateful.

I just want people to think about the nurturers in their world..the women who love and care and go above and beyond..they may not have given birth but does this lessen their mothering love they give.

Happy Mothers Day mum..and to all of you ‘mums’ out there I hope you know you are appreciated for the care love and nurturing selflessness you have.

Excuse the pics as they are old and scanned πŸ™‚

  2. Oh that was such a nice post. It was great to read and to watch the pictures. Our mothers day is on last sunday in may (if we haven’t invented it, at least we have to celebrate it our own way, vive la france). Have a great day tomorrow and I hope all mom’s of the world will have a great day too (except the mom’s in france who have to wait till 5/25). oh and btw: Mr. WordPress, that’s a post what deserved a “freshly pressed”.

  3. What a thoroughly grand Mother’s Day post……first I wish you a wonderful Mom’s Day – you’ve got a whole lot to be proud of and happy about with your lovely family. But I also agree that even those of us who never had a family can be Moms – I’ve been that to MANY people (and critters) through my many years – it’s all about nurturing isn’t it. I get a little “funny” around my edges on Mom’s Day because my Mom passed away years ago and there were many things unsaid or undone but I know in my heart she did her best – I was loved – and THAT’s Mother’s Day. Great post Bev…..sending you Mom’s Day hugs……

    Love, Pam

  5. What wonderful old photos….such great memories for you. Mother’s Day always makes me a little sad since my Mom has been gone for quite a few years now. I didn’t have children of my own but I have one stepson who always very nicely calls me on mother’s day, even though he never lived with me full time like his real mom. So that makes it special along with my hubby giving me a card or gift from the other “kids” – the dogs and cats. Hope you have a great day!

    • Jan it is still your Mothers day indeed as we all agree that the love and nurturing women share may not always be with human kids πŸ™‚ it’s the love that matters and I hope you have some lovely memories of your mum ..believe me she is always with you in how you act and how you live your life and as a mum I know this for sure. Have a lovely day an enjoy those you love πŸ™‚ xx

    • Thanks so much my sweets…I have always had admiration for women who nurture..and not all have given birth!! whether by choice or not women can be mothers in so many ways..care and compassion selflessness are not just the qualities of those who give birth! and when I see your posts and stories I know you have indeed mothered many…there are many women who give birth and yet never mother..big hugs and loves Bev xxx ❀

        • Thanks sweets..but it is true..i often wonder at the unfairness of a world that assumes giving birth makes you a nurturer…it’s a hard job and often thankless..the rewards sometimes take a lifetime to come if ever for some mums..my aunty never had children an I can understand why..she never married until in her 60’s she was a good aunty but had a nasty side to her also..my other aunty had children and was a great mum..my own mum was not well and as such our childhood was pretty ordinary..i am glad I am here but I do think perhaps she was not in a position to raise kids..you have all the qualities that mums have and that is the important thing..mothering when you don’t have your own children I think is even more wonderful πŸ™‚ xxxx

  12. πŸ˜‰ That is a good idea Bev…I know you understand because of your situation. My Nanna & my Father were my main supports. When Nanna was alive I would send her a Mother’s day card & take her out for Ice Cream. I always told her I would not have survived without her….I also used to send my Father a “Mother’s Day’ card & he said he treasured them alot!
    Thank you for your support.

  13. I agree Bev; we all has something to cope with family wise. I was raised by my Grandparents herew where I now live. My Father worked 2 jobs & still came up on weekends. He was amazing. My Nanna & Zaida were amazing. I had lots of Aunts & Uncles but they were fairly old & were just sort of there. I was close to my Aunt Easther & Uncle Mark & spent some time with them too….
Sometimes I felt like it was “Pass the SherriEllen game”…I know my Father did the best he could….
Love you to the moon & back too!
