Bacon’s show and tell

Well my darling friend Bacon has asked up to remember the one thing from our childhood that we could play with forever and ever..that one thing that we loved and remembered fondly..well here goes…

bacons-show-and-tell

Mud and water......

Mud and water……

Yep…I was a tomboy..and whenever I had the chance I would head to mud..and water…I could play with it for hours..i loved to make things from clay and watch them change in the sun and bake..i had no fear of getting dirty..still don’t..i loved the smell of the earth when it was wet…I loved looking for worms and bugs…slater beetles..snails..real grub I was…

Water

Water

And water I loved water..the pool we had..the rivers I would visit with my grandparents on road trips but most of all the beach and the ocean…every summer we headed there..fishing swimming playing in the sand..
If I could have stayed in water or mud all year I would have been the happiest child on the planet…

Squishy mud....

Squishy mud….

I still play with the mud..its called gardening…and I still love the water..yet do not get as much chance to be in it anymore..the kid in me still loves the smell of wet earth…the ground here is not quite as soft and yielding as where I played as a child..but my love of feeling the Earth in my hands and the freedom of floating and diving into water will always be my greatest joys πŸ™‚

Even if the neighbourhood horses find the whole thing hilarious…

  1. wait I come over and we build bridges and castles on this fabulous construction ground :o) mom’s speciality were dribble castles and mud towers :o) the only bad thing was the water what came in your wellies while building your own mud-world. Sadly mom’s stingy pawrents refused to buy her waders :o(

  2. Ah yes….glorious mud…..I too enjoyed modeling all manner of things from mud – both my brother and I would sit and play in mud puddles for hours. I probably should have become a sculptress!!! HAHAHA

      • I never actually got to the potters wheel stage but thought about taking classes at one point – then decided to do oil painting instead……but the “mud woman” in me occasionally thinks about it!

        • Oh do it!! it is soooo cathartic…the fluid movement of the clay under your hands is lovely…and mesmerising…the first time you “get” it is like learning to ride a bike without the training wheels πŸ™‚ …now I am all revved up to do it again ..first I have a spinners wheel to learn..;)

  3. We used to swim in farm ponds all time when I was a kid.. can’t believe I did it and wouldn’t think of doing it now.. Ick! I wouldn’t mind a good wade in a muddy hole and I am sure there would be some interesting stuff to see! I still like to get dirty but it’s going to have to cool off some here! I was a tomboy and and still am! The outdoors.. a great alternative to toys!

  6. My favourite times as a child were when I was over the pony stud working with the horses. Didn’t matter what the weather was like, when I wasn’t at school that’s where I’d be:)

Hope you have a fab weekend.

  8. Omy muddy Goddess! Synchros over web today. I just got a letter from my dad with copy of me as a 2 year old at beach holding plastic beach ball. At the same time as I was emailing him pics of a girl at the beach who reminded me very much of me. I adored being at the beach as a kid and still need to get there occasionally. I still am a happy Tomgirl, finally! Age has not decreased my love of clumping around in Nature. We used to love going away on horse riding holidays at a rough farm when we were kids. 1 of our fave activities going down to the dams and collecting tadpoles in jars and then counting them and maybe we might even get frogs if we were lucky which were always good to stir up any adults. Heh Heh!

    • Haahahaah yep taddies are so much fun πŸ™‚ when I spotted them hanging around the dam edge last year I was so excited πŸ™‚ sounds like you had a great time with horses…something I never got to do πŸ™‚ hugs Bev xx

  10. Thre is nothing like a good romp in the mud!!! I used to go mud sliding in the forest here when I was a child. I’d return home covered in mud & my Grandparents would just laugh & laugh…..They were VERY patient people! I would then have a warm Aveeno oatmeal bath & fresh jammies & supper; oh THOSE were the days!!!!!
Thanks for this; you just put a big πŸ™‚ on my face…

  11. What fun you had! True, there is nothing like good ole mud. The horse thought you were hilarious. We didn’t play in mud unless we were near the ocean or lake. We were given shovels and pails and told to go at it. We would dig for China. Which was way under us….they moved China a wile ago and now you can take a plane there. After we had our holes we were given a running hose to fill the holes with water. We sprayed each other, watered the plants etc., finally filling the hole and then we sat in the holes….looking back, the hole sitting seems rather boring but we were happy. Go figure. Simple minds and all that.
