Playing around and learning new things

Hi guys..well I must say my eyes are feeling so much better since the Dr has put me on steroids…of course I am eating for Australia but whatever..i can see better and the added steroid cream has all but fixed my ear and the skin around my eyes..so I have a bonus health wise for a change!
I have been trying to learn some new things in Lightroom..a great program but I am yet to totally figure it out..only been trialling it for a few days so still early..the thing is my pics are all on my old computer..and transferring images to the new one is a painstaking thing! Photoshop is a dud on my new computer as the resolution is fantastic but the program just has a teeny tiny almost invisible panel to work with..seems to be a problem they have not resolved …so I am trying to figure out how this lightroom works with transferring images and think I am getting there.

On the weekend we decided to go into Melbourne to the market…huge disappointment as the place has changed in 3 years..no vibe..fruit and veg not that good ..but the Churros were great and the Bacon sarnie I had for brekky was delish!

I had an irritating conversation with a photographer who although I thought his work was good and varied he came across as a bit of an Artiste ..
He had pictures of architecture, streetscapes, landscapes and a couple of ‘wildlife’ pics.
He took one look at my mid range camera and gave me the look….whatever..
I said I was not a very versatile photographer as I found my best shots were wildlife..which he responded to by saying that nobody wants wildlife pictures..they have seen it all, they are all the same, there is nothing new in wildlife.

So of course I ask him about his ‘wildlife’ shot of the roo..he says he took it at a zoo..

Now I am not a pro..and I do not claim to be…but I am pretty sure ‘wildlife’ is wild..and if you take your shot at a zoo you can hardly expect to see anything different.
Far from being deterred I just laughed to myself..this guy was good..yes he could take pics of all sorts of things..but let’s not over indulge in self importance.

I noticed that while he sat with no customers, no sales, that the surrounding ten or so souvenir stalls were selling really bad Australiana to tourists at a rapid rate of knots..and yes animal Australiana..

There are many photographers out there who are amazing, they share their knowledge, their tips and encourage you. These people do so because they love what they do,they get a buzz out of sharing that joy and have no problem with a person who is learning the art talking to them about it.

I could have critiqued his roo image myself as the color of the roo was over saturated, the background was overblown and the composition stunk..there was no real focal point..just sayin..but i didn’t..(to him anyway but did rabbit on about it in the car until hubby probably wanted to scream )

I just walked away knowing people like that are the reason i crawl on the ground and under the bush and climb trees..animals have no arrogance..and i bless them all for that.

So until i can get my pics sorted all i have to share is one from the market…i think it’s cute and sums up how i felt…stuck at the end of somewhere waiting for something to happen.

  2. To me your photography is awesome. Mom calls dad in to look at your pics of wildlife. The possum on your verandah had mom calling dad to come take a look at Fozziemums pictures. Dad is always happy to see your photos. So you know for sure a couple in Canada loves your pics . We have self important plicks here too! They must have to think they’re important because others don’t feel that way. If, someone helps a questioning soul…they are the artist not the negative jerks. The dog on the leash even looks like he’s frowning.

  3. I didn’t transfer my pictures when I changed computers, I just took out the hard drive and added it to the new computer. You can also buy something that allows you to connect an internal hard drive to a USB connection so you can easily transfer everything over.

I don’t take photos to sell, mostly because I don’t think I am good enough to make a living at it, but I do see so many people trying to sell photos that are far worse than mine. I hope nobody is buying them because if they are I could have changed careers a long time ago.

I have things I would love to do with my pics, but this guy sheesh…he was good like I said but that roo shot..well I was a tad astounded..and then the attitude…and looking at the tacky Australiana made in Taiwan that was selling really broke my heart..we have such beauty here and to see the ‘tourist’ version is really amazing..urghhh πŸ™‚

  4. All of your photos of the wildlife you encounter around your property are incredible and “honest” – that so called “artiste” hasn’t got a clue……People like that are annoying know-it-alls who won’t have a crowd around them at a market fair because lecturing and criticizing do not “endear” them to their customers……it’s a strange way to be if you want to attract people to your work. Anyway, I agree with everyone else – keep doing what you’re doing………because YOU are doing it right!! Glad to hear the steroids are working too…….bravo.

My eyes bothered me for a few days after we got home from vacation.. burning, and that hardly ever happens to me and I couldn’t stand it. HAPPY for you that your eyes are feeling so much better.
I can cruise the streets of blogland and find some awesome photographs and photographers and I realize that I am never going to be that kind of a photographer and I am good with that… really. I am a just a picture taker and I don’t follow any of the rules of photography. I just click what makes me happy! And your photo up above makes me HAPPY! You had to have used Lightroom on that photo! That little French Bulldog (?) is too cute for words. I also love the feel of this picture and call me crazy but I love the texture and look of the concrete wall.. πŸ˜€ I enjoy your wildlife photography and your not so wildlife photography… kitties, pups, sheepies, and any other thing you click… FOOD!

  7. he took it at a zooooooooo? apaws, apaws, huh? muhahaha! I once thought I could ask a pro to get better photos, but probably they all think they are the reincarnation of Ansel Adams. The guy I asked suggested me a light box, different lights and equipment for the same price I had to pay for a brandnew car…uggh! I helped myself with two working lights, that worked too… ok I nearly set the house on fire, because they became as hot as a vulcano… but I saved a lot of money for my equipment. Glad your eyes are better, hope the treatment can chase away all pains forever&ever .

      • Technique is good, but you have to have a lot more than that, anyone can be a photographer if they just learn the technical crap. That is good that you thought his images were crap, I’ve come across photographers like that too, they think they are so good. Oh well, the world has to have them so we know how not to be.

        • So agree Leanne..he could do with looking at a few bloggers like yourself who are happy to share what they have learnt and in return are open about what they have learnt from others..my technical knowledge is ..well..getting there..but you cannot use technique to be in the right spot at the right time..and that is somehow a lucky streak I have..I mean I do not know anyone else who has a shot of a wedge tail having a poo mid-flight over their head….haahaha and yes his ‘wildlife’ shots lacked a point..the rest of his stuff was good..but clearly he cannot capture that eye in nature…which is fine..I will keep that little ‘technique’ for myself…and yes I would never want to be so pompous…its boring!:)
