Put out to Pasture

The origins of the term ‘Put out to pasture’ refers to old work horses being retired to a pasture to live out their days without working.

Today i have done that..i have ‘Put out to pasture’ my work boots..they are not the first in the 3 years since i have been here..and they shall not be the last..

They will be retired to my garden where they will be filled with soil and grow pansies…they can enjoy being in the garden ..for different reasons..

That’ll do boots..that’ll do ..

  1. That is definitely an unusual use for those boots. Look forward to seeing them with pansies. Good job of repurposing. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    • I have done this with all my old boots and eventually they fall apart and get thrown away…but they do look pretty with little flowers popping out πŸ™‚ and as of course if the girls find them well they just scratch them up like they did when they were still my boots:) ..hard to let go of a good boot here πŸ™‚ loves Fozziemum xxx

    • The soles are almost paper thin and I can feel the slightest pebble..and considering the rocks here…well..so off tonight to get a new pair..i think that’s why I like to use them in the garden..they still have soul…if not sole..:) xx

  3. Just think of the many stories those pair of boots could tell. The places they have been. They sights they have seen. The crap they have stepped in – snorts. Couldn’t be all serious there. Great idea for planting flowers in them. XOXO – Bacon

  5. bev…what a cool idea !! great set of photos as well, I like number three….gives you the sense of waiting…been there… and yet to reach their destination…can you preserve the boots somehow to make them last a while? waterproof coating or the like ? πŸ™‚ β™₯β™₯β™₯ laura

    • Thank Laura I can waterproof them..they seem to last really well outside..my other ones got moved to the scarecrow Twerker and are still hanging on..even without waterproofing…I love my boots and sadly have to say goodbye when they get thin on the sole..otherwise I would wear them forever πŸ™‚ loves Bev xxx ❀

      • Crikey …. are you sure they’re ready for the pasture? They look perfectly good to me. My Mum’s look much worse and she’s not parting with them yet. Those photos are great and those boots would sure be happy out there, aye?? I’d like to be out there too. Looks like my sort of country.

        • Charlie they look fab I agree..but sadly the soles are too thin and I can feel every pebble..i have worn them to death and they are not stable around my ankles anymore either which is a worry on very rough and rocky ground πŸ™‚ it is my kind of country too and yep they have had a good life…but need to retire πŸ™‚ loves Fozziemum xx

          • I totally ‘get’ you about the boots & jeans. I am like that with many of my clothes. They last me for a long time so when they do fall apart it hits me hard…
Saying Goodbye to my Bob Marley T-shirt I had for 22 years was so difficult last month. It was full of wee holess & threadbare, lol….
Adieu T-shirt Adieu Boots *wipes tear from eye*

  7. Lee says she understands the feeling well, she has a pair of penny loafers that she was worn for over thirty years. She has had them resoled dozens of times, had new heels put on and even has had them resewn but sadly the leather has given way. Wish Ralph Lauren still made their classic penny loafer. Sadly we don’t think they are even fit for our flowers. Loved the way you used your old boots.

    • Thankyou Sweet William..it sure is hard to let go of those faithful friends! i hope that maybe you can find something for the old loafers to do πŸ™‚ they certainly do not make many things as they used too which is such a shame 😦 i hope my boots are happy πŸ™‚ loves Fozziemum xxx
