260 Kilometres…

Hi everyone..thankyou so much for all the beautiful birthday wishes and cards on Facebook and here..thankyou all for making an old gal feel very special indeed..i will share my cards with you all later this week..and i want to also say i am so happy and relieved that Easy’s  Dad Mark is home and on the mend..and that i still send my love to my little sister Lisa as she mourns the loss of her gorgeous doggie Skii at the age of 13..it has been a sad few days and hence the reason i did not post on my birthday…

Today i want to talk about aging..i am not worried to say i am 54..i am lucky i have made this journey so far when so many do not..

I have earnt every wrinkle..every stretch mark..i know my butt is no longer where it used to be..even my knees now look oddly different..but i have walked many miles..i have seen and done many things and i have no worries in saying i am no longer 26..

There is a beauty that comes with age..a patina that only lifes experiences can leave..the good and the bad have a profound effect on us..both physically and spiritually.

But what a boring canvas we would be without those layers of life emblazoned across us ..yes being younger we have a youthful glow..but aging gives a mellowness that has it’s own glow..born of many paths travelled.

So i thought today i would share some of those travels..i travelled a lot over the week..in fact in one day i racked up 260 kilometres..

I found some old things that had their own gorgeous patina..and also some new things full of the glow of youth..none of these were people..but landscapes and buildings..also able to age and weather and show beauty as they do…

I cried as I read the post of your sis on FB…. that’s so darned hard to say good bye… Thanks for inviting me to a tour, I love this old abandoned houses, I always stop when I see an interesting one and I ponder how I would bring it back to life with my own hands. ok, we better stay away from any diy-project for a while, but I like it to do it in my imagination…

    • I know it was awful..we could not talk to each other as we knew we would lose it..he was the gentlest boy and still so bright and aware..heart breaking…i am glad you like the tour..at least you could do so safely..i accidentally tresspassed..started to sink in a bog which nearly sucked my boot off my foot and drove home stinky….i agree i think maybe DIY should be avoided at all costs…just admire and move on hahahaha xxx

  4. Bev,
Sorry we missed your special day.
Your words of wisdom on aging are the truth, I’ll have to
remember them. I turned 62 last month might have
to print this post and tape it to the refrigerator.
Beautiful photos, no way to pick a favorite.

  5. First of all a Happy Belated Birthday, Bev! I have a few more years on you and I absolutely agree … every wrinkle tells its own tale. I’ve looked at pics of myself in my younger years and have actually decided I really, I MEAN THIS, I really like how I look now compared to then. As you say, I’ve acquired a patina, a softness, a more self-assured expression, eyes filled with Love and Laughter.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED your images, just taken away with each one of them. It looks like you as well are seeing bodies of water disappear. It’s shocking, isn’t it? I adored your titles to each image and could relate not only to what I was seeing, but the words as well. I know I do not get here oft enough as I would like to, but when I do, I really enjoy your Blog. May we all BE Blessed with good health for the rest of our lives. Oh, and please pass on to your sister my deepest condolences. God knows, I understand that loss. Truly!! (((HUGS))) Amy ❤

    • Amy thankyou so much for your lovely words…indeed we are lucky to be here when many never get to experience much life…i prefer my youthful face i must say but much prefer my older happiness 🙂 water is slowly going everywhere…we need rains that will fill our dams but they hold very little apart from moody skies…i so hope you get rains as needed also
..gentle but steady to help the poor old ground..Loves Bev xxxx

      • Bev, what is so startling, is no matter how much precipation we get, and this year + last year a lot!, the water levels just keep going down. It makes no sense. I live near Lake Erie and from what I hear, the lake’s levels itself are going down. Where is all the water going? That is my million dollar question lately. Seriously. Is it global warming? Is it fracking? I don’t know, but what I am seeing is alarming!! I hope you get the rains you need. ❤

  6. Fab photos. What a shame those properties are empty now.

Love your outlook on aging. I will be 53 this December and I really don’t mind. Like you say so many don’t get another year, month or day, so we should grab each new dawn with both hands.

  7. You know I love your pictures and these are no different. They have your mark..FOZZIEMUM was here. One thing I couldn’t help but wonder while looking at the picture of the little house. Who lived there? Was it a young family enjoying the wild? Was it a man and woman growing crops to make money? So many questions as we have when we see an older person….not a young person. An older person has seen many things….horrible or happy or both.

    • Jean thankyou…yes i wonder too…drought hit here hard and for a long time…the land also is terribly barren in many areas..maybe years of toil was too much..we may never know..but i see their beauty..and like the elderly i appreciate all the mysteries they hold of days gone by..Loves Bev xxxx

  13. As always, your pictures speak volumes. Age is a great way to learn that nothing is a matter of life and death – unless it’s an actual matter of life or an actual matter of death. May this be the best year of your life. And may the next years be even better…. Enjoy!

  14. Love the photos………..and love the “attitude” about aging……….I’m turning 68 soon and find that in my head I am YEARS younger……..the body is certainly aging though but I don’t mind. I had my time in the sun of youth and now that there are a few clouds in the sky (and gray in my hair) I don’t mind the lovely “mellowness” of it all…………..memories keep me warm and I’m still HERE after several bouts of serious illness so I’m happy…………..and I want to be that way for however many days lie ahead………………..and I know you do too! Glad you had a wonderful birthday dear lady as you deserve that and more.

    • Pam thankyou so much…68 is amazing because you really do not look at all 68…and your youthfullness rings in all your posts..i feel young in my heart and yes the body is not young anymore but being older is far more liberating..you keep that spark and you will be entertaining us for a long time here…much loves Bev xxxx

  16. Been very quiet this week and not had a lot of opportunity to get out and about with the camera. I love all your photographs and look forward to looking at them. I did take a few photographs at the Wetlands and that was interesting. In about six weeks I head off to Mount Gambier – all new territory for me – so I will certainly have the camera with me and hope to get to the Blue Lake.

  17. Happy Belated Birthday Bev!
What a lovely tribute to Aging. Your photos are lovely & yes there is beauty in old buildings & things if we look for the beauty.
Altho I am not aging ‘gracefully” (especially when I fall flat on my face) I do appreciate that I have made it to 59 1/2 & it is a miracle for me also.
We walk this path together….I am so glad we have each other to share the journey with & laugh & cry & commiserate!!!
