The unexpected

I had a bad day yesterday..and despite the sunshine and the warm air i was in no mood to do anything..not even take shots..

I did the grocery shopping ..well physically i did , mentally i was elsewhere..came home unpacked and was making a coffee.

I was looking out the window at the sun and how it was highlighting the Golden Wattles and the how it showed the earth still dry and brown in our yard..Winter having next to no rain..and as i was daydreaming i spotted our first Stumpy tail lizard for the season.

They are amazing creatures, can live to 50 or more and partner for life..so this one must have had a friend close by.

We already have started the outside banning of the kitties…we knew with the heat comes trouble!

So i had to grab my camera..now he had disappeared when i looked back out.see he was heading to our front yard but we have snake meshed it..poor dude.

A real fallacy is that with these lizards around you will not have snakes..well we had a family of five last year and had our second snake bite! they both enjoy the same environment and foods..yes a large Stumpy tail or Blue tongue lizard will eat small snakes but this means they are in the same place.

Anyway as i walked out i saw along the side fence a huge Stumpy tail..must have gotten in where we have not finished…i ushered it into the garden and hope it finds it’s way out..or we will have to pop it over the fence..

Then i spotted a third! so off i went ..he was near the recently cleared embankment out the front..so i took some shots while lying on the ground and hoping a snake was not close by!

I let him go off and do his thing, headed to the dam area and gave a few roos a start..they took off so i continued to the dam..

Well i had the beejeebers scared out ff me when this big boy stood up! he must have been snoozing and out of sight..we had a bit of a tense ‘what the’ moment before i walked away from him and he then felt safe to hop off.

I went and sat under a tree and as i was feeling cruddy i just took a snap of my view..the tranquil roos in the bottom paddock settling for the early evening..the sun going..a window to tranquility..i had a cry ..a good cry..hubby came home and down to the tree,he took my hand helped blubbering me up gave me a hug and told me we would be fine..just fine..and i believe him.

  1. Auntie Bev, it breaks our little Scottie hears when we hear that you have been crying. Things may seem overwhelming and unclear right now but they will settle and things will fall into place again, we can’t give you and ETA on this butt we can assure you that it will happen.

  2. Great photos…….life is full of surprises – some good and some not so much – but around every bend in the road of our journey we’ll find challenges. They can all be overcome…..dealt with…..taken care of. Just about the time we get “comfortable” with things, something happens. It’s the way of the world. You guys will be JUST FINE…….having a good cry is something that is good to do when you’re overwhelmed but then you dust yourself off, and move on – and you will. You have all that beauty to help you through the rough stuff………………..and of course a whole lot of friends all around the world who will help!

    • Pam thankyou so much..i have indeed dusted those boots off grabved my big girl pants and am looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead…life does have a way of shaking complacent from us and allowing us to invest in new things…hurt and tears were only for one person..and he is fine…we are excited about the future..and as hard as that blow was..it was only the insult..not the act…and all my wonderful friends here are proof that we all have ups and downs but get going again…that cry was a build up..now back to smiles…thankyou so much for always being a wonderful friend! Love and hugs Bev xx

      • I truly do understand……sometimes it’s just the SHOCK of something happening unexpectedly and particularly if it’s happening to someone that we love…….but you two have a MORE than solid rock to stand on and a year from now you’ll realize that everything happens for a reason and sometimes brings more joy than you thought you could handle!

  4. Boy do I know those kinds of days…it is always amazing to me that despite the inner turmoil, the world can still show the magic. I’m glad you were able to capture it so beautifully, both in words and pictures. (BTW, LOVE the one of the jumping roos, they really do fly don’t they?)

Bev…nothin wrong with a good cry; that’s why God gave us all tears; cry a bit, kick a log, scuff a boot….I honestly thought when I first saw the post title ….be jezuz, she was out photographing and saw a brown…now I have the heeebeeez thinkin bout it…course I wood have peed any and all clothing if that lizard had come within a foot a me, a brown too……you captured an awesome shot of him and the roo photo in incredible !!, especailly with those trees…..what makes that lizard blue by the way ?? β™₯β™₯β™₯β™₯

    • Hahaha Laura i am sorry i gave you the heebies πŸ™‚ those lizards are super sweet and many people have special licences to keep them as pets..which i would not do..i love them..loyal for life..the poor mum has a baby the size of a human having a three year old.yikes and often it can kill her..so unfair..but that is life 😦 they vary in colour from quite pale to very dark..this one most likely a female as they are bigger than the boys was so dark as to almost be blue πŸ™‚ their tongues are blue and we have a lizard very similar who has a tail more like a lizard and they are called Blue tongues and they have super blue tongues πŸ™‚ you can get a start and think it may b a snake but their heads are a lot bigger…thing is if it blinks or basically has eyelids it’s a lizard..snakes do not..as for the big roo..now that did scare the heebies out of me..popped up and we had the stare down..only briefly i gave him his space..a lucky few shots on a camera that was set for something else πŸ™‚ hugs to you my friend and i will be fine..how can i not with friends like you πŸ™‚ Loves Bev xxx

  8. Strange how this beauties and nature can make us grab the camera, especially on those days when we feel we just don’t want to go on Bev. It’s the same here darling and thankfully we have our hubbies and our cameras. Crying is good for the soul and I am glad you went out and took those absolutely stunning shots to share with us. I love seeing the Roos and the wonderful view around you and that lizard is absolutely gorgeous! πŸ˜€ β™₯
