Forgotten garden

My poor garden has been well neglected these past few months..and before i know it my Irises have bloomed by the dozens and i had almost missed out on their beauty.

Ironic that my photography is all about capturing those beautiful images and yet between computers and practical aspects to getting my images out there for a market place i am losing myself in a less than natural place..

My back is still trying my patience as i found today when wandering the property , trying to manage cameras and gear and being mindful of where i was stepping because of Β snake season, well i am paying for it tonight..

But this afternoon as i looked out the window i spotted a stumpy tail..he was happily munching on weeds that have flourished in the barren dirt we laughingly call grass!

I went out and took some shots of him..all the time wondering why i was having a hard time focusing..and why i was having to get so close to him to get what i wanted..it was not until i spotted just how many Irises i had that i realised..i had the micro lens on..seriously..really..good grief..between that and this mornings episode of no sd card in my camera and wondering what was going on!

Yes it appears i have spent so much time on developing my photos that i have been sitting on my brain!

The good thing was that the shots i took of the Irises are lovely..go figure πŸ™‚

So be not afraid..the Stumpy Tail is Β NOT Β a snake..believe me there is a lens for our Eastern Browns and it is called Brutus! my lovely Β 500mm telephoto that will keep me at a safe distance!

I have kept the Stumpy Tail pictures to last for folks who freak out over them πŸ™‚ ..the last shot he is headed in a drain pipe i sure hope he comes back out..i have been worried all day! i am sure he will he has a girlfriend who has made a nest under the mulch in my fig garden πŸ™‚

So my garden today..a nice place to get away from technical nightmares..

And a song from my youth that i think is appropriate πŸ™‚

  1. I had no clue that an animal exists what has a longer tongue than me… butt well… congrats Mr. Stumptail, you are the winner :o) Bev, I hope you picked the name for the snakie-lense careful… remember what that cesar guy said…Et tu Brute? … at least the fist name of that lens isn’t Marcus :o)

    • Hahaha yes he has a great big blue tongue indeed..but yours is still pretty impressive! Mr Stumpy is also known as a Bob tail in some states ..bless him..and no Brutus is hopefully just Brutus..but if needs be i can call him Maurice the space cowboy πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ xxx

    • Jo thankyou..he sure is a cute lizard πŸ™‚ i do prefer them to snakes..the snakes are beautiful but i fear the dog bites…yikes..and they are out early this year..at their deadliest when first out after a long time in hiding..venom at full strength and looking for love and food..a dangerous combo..especially the young ones.they strike at full belt not having the older snakes knowledge of conserving their venom..typical youngens πŸ˜‰ xx

  2. Gorgeous iris shots and Mr. Stumpy is quite “dinosaur-ic” in his looks indeed! He does have cute little toes! If he can get under that fence, does that mean those icky brown snakes can too? I worry so about snake season there!

    • Pam thankyou..yes he is..i love these guys they are so cute πŸ™‚ and i am glad i stopped to see the Irises..almost too late! yes the browns can get under as well..it was a spot we have to fix up..making sure the lizards are out first and not trapped and of course do not want to trap a brown in here either..the back is safe as houses where the pups and kitty catio is so that is the main thing..always something to do here πŸ™‚ and it is upon us early this year..already bite victims at the vets on a regular basis..not my most fun time of year 😦 Hugs and loves Bev xx

  4. Well how rude – he stuck his tongue out at you. Can you believe that? After you were trying to be so charming with him – snorts with piggy laughter. Been thinking about you the past couple of days. Let’s try to catch up this weekend okay πŸ™‚ XOXO – Bacon

  5. Hi Bev, Your Irises are beautiful. My dad loved them and a few different varieties in his garden.

I was fine with Stumpy until you showed his tongue. Too much like a snake for me:) Are you made going outside in ‘Snake Season’???:) I’d hibernate inside until ‘Snake Season’ was over:) LOL

Hope you are soon feeling much better. Sue, Polly & Honey

  7. Whoa, that tongue….that guy really does have quite the attitude! The photos of the irises are breathtaking. They were always one of my Mom’s favorite flowers when I was a teenager. She gave me my love of gardening.
It’s tough when you’re dealing with a lot of things, especially pain, sometimes it makes the brain a little tired! It’s good you are still able to get out there a little bit, and I hope you are back to 100% soon, Bev. xxoo

  8. The irises are gorgeous. Mom is delighted to see such beauty captured in your camera. That Stumpytail looks like a very old man. When you get that close to him, one can see how he could have a family and be a typical married man….well, a married man for a reptile. He doesn’t seem as yucky, is what mom’s trying to say. MOL

    • Shoko and Jean thankyou..the flowers are beautiful πŸ™‚ and yes the stumpy’s are great…real little dinosaurs in our world..they live to 50 sometimes and have the same partner for life meeting up each year at the same place..the Mum has a baby the equivalent size to if a human gave birth to a three year old! yikes! makes your eyes water…poor things..the girls are bigger than the boys..so i think this one was actually a girl because it was very big! loves Fozziemum xx

  9. Your irises are so beautiful! You definitely have a lovely garden. How can you not if you have all of those irises! Well, I though at first Stumpy was a snake. He became much cuter when I saw that he was a lizard. Man, he really looks so like a prehistoric relic. Love it! πŸ™‚

  10. Honestly, you live in the most fascinating place! I have seen your stumpy tail photos before but decided to read a bit more about them today. I’m glad they don’t eat people or pets! Haha! They are prehistoric and turtle looking. I also checked out the brown snake info. Whoa! The second most dangerous snake in the world? No, thanks. I hope that you don’t have to deal with many of those. Your irises are lovely.

  11. Lovely captures, as always. Irises are my favorite flowers! We had them (albeit a different variety) in our yard when I was a child, and it was always such a treat when they bloomed. We think stumpy tail is kind of cute, by the way. πŸ™‚

  12. bev…ya know, if I saw just the head of that dood in my garden, and yes he DOES look like a snake till ya see his feet; the only photo of my garden would be the chalk outline the coroner made after hauling away my carcass as I died from a heart attack on the spot !!!

  13. Love the flowers and the Lizard – both sets of photographs were really excellent. My father was a good gardener, but, sadly, I never inherited his skills. I do, however, have a White Ceder which keeps me busy sweeping up the mess it makes. I did have a lizard here once and we always had the hope that he /she would come back again, but never did.

    • Hahahah John i have my grandparents love of gardening but also my time is super limited so it does get a bit out of control πŸ™‚ thankyou for the lovely compliment ..maybe your lizard was passing through and maybe he may come again…i know i miss our echidna visits since the land was semi cleared next door…and thankyou for the most beautiful and thoughtful card which arrived today..you are most welcome and i am so glad you loved the cards..it was my pleasure indeed πŸ™‚
