A trip to my paddock..all creatures gathering

A trip to the back paddock to get some kindling for the fire and i came upon this sight..Kangaroos..my sheepies..a Fox and of course in the bottom left hand side of the screen Nelson the willy wagtail…a busy time of day for all the fox poses no threat to my sheep or the fullgrown Kangaroos..who will defend themselves with a swift kick..the rabbits are the target for the fox..and i could see them in the further paddock hopping away..while the fox kept looking…a busy weekend here with Hubbies birthday and Anzac Day and a modem that needs replacing.so getting on line has been laborious..i will catch up as soon as i can as commenting has the circle of doom spinning..yet posting is alright ??? ..

Wiped out Wednesday

Hi guys..well what a month it has been..we have been running a revolving door to the vets with Dinnermintz,Pickles,Marbles,Forrest and then Doc..
To say between this and yard work and Christmas preparation I am tired is an understatement.
Hubby has at the same time been working ridiculous hours some days 21 hours and travelling interstate to the point that neither of us remember where he is at times…sheesh. I think he is in Sydney…I think..

We are having the family up a week before Christmas and so if you think you are behind…then it’s ok..i am even more behind hahaha 🙂

The weather has been odd, we had some really stinky hot days then back to the heater..now it is warming up again and quite humid at night..great when you have internal combustion giving you trouble at the best of times.
The garden needs a pruning again as things have grown like mad, my tomatoes are coming along really well and once we can fence the whole part off from the pups the other beds will be planted out with Zucchinis (I love the flowers stuffed) ,cantaloupe, capsicums, chillies, peas, lettuce, corn, pumpkin, squash, spaghetti squash and a heap of other goodies…my greatest joy is to get my hands in the soil.

My camera decided to have a little hissy fit the other night…and I have to get it to the camera shop to be looked at..it seems ok but there is clearly something up with it..since it is my lifeline to sanity I was a tad unimpressed to say the least..i almost went into a panic mode..
But I had words with it and took it out and managed to calm my farm with some shots outside..nature..i thank you ..you always remind me my problems are smaller than they really seem..
Have a great day everyone..i need sleep…flying solo with 4 cats and 2 dogs and 3 sheep and 11 acres of scrub is weighing heavily on my mojo:)

Spring on the wing

Spring is such a wonderful time …as busy as I am ..and I am up to my neck..i have been making an effort to really indulge in the changes around the property..in doing so I have spotted a few new species of birds that have made an appearance… become entranced with the Stumpy tail family that has taken up residence in my garden and have been loving the incredibly large group of bees that are collecting pollen from one tree in particular..

So today I am showing those avian friends that are busily preparing for or raising young…I hope you don’t mind the change from the Roos..

Wild on Wednesdays

Today was overcast..windy and very gloomy..in all I saw three roos today..even they have headed to shelter it seems..so I packed the camera and headed to a local Reservoir called Crusoe..

Here are some of the pictures I took today..not all brilliant as the lighting was shocking…and since my eyes were on birds..of course that adds to the complexity of getting a good shot…bad lighting..fast moving erratic creatures..wind…oh and a head ache 😉

Silly Seagull Saturday

This seagull cracked me up…what a personality…I had been watching him with my sister when we went on a girls holiday last year for 5 nights in Broadbeach Qld.

Like me she has a thing for the poor creatures that blend in with the scenery…he had one leg..common to seagulls from fishing line tangles.. and yet amongst all those seagulls he held his own.

We sat there wondering how he coped, had he been in pain and dealing with his leg problems for a long time, did the others pick on him did he spend his time alone..did he have a friend a mate had he fathered seagulls…on and on we went…depressing ourselves even more….we do this my sister and I ..we ring each other if we see something upsetting and become quite morose together…we are not made of strong stuff..

So we postulated on the life of the gull and how we all fitted into this crazy world ,ate our fish and chips and  threw chips to the birds.. always making a big squawk and a rukus …all seagulls do and us making sure this little guy got just that bit more..we then went down the path of comedy as we do to make our moods lift…did he really have one leg? was he just fooling for better food, was he in fact a horrid little thing that made no friends and was nasty to the others…we are idiots my sister and I…our minds ramble as much as our mouths!

While this drama ..both in real life and in our rampaging imaginations was unravelling the seagull looked up and i took another of a heap of pics  I had taken of the flock already…this one is my fave….seems he is just as silly as my sister and I….I wish him well and thank him for a great memory of a day on the beach with my little sister.

HAPPY FIRST OF DECEMBER..LET THE GAMES BEGIN

Already had one small grass fire near home but the CFA got it out quickly..wind was blowing away from us too so that was good,we have everything packed anyway so ready to roll.

The day was spent making the xmas cake xmas biscuits putting the tree up and other assorted shenanigans…

Poor hubby is in a world of hurt from an over zealous throw of the boys toys…he gets a frozen shoulder and of course he knew he had pushed it..i suggested I throw the toys for the boys and him and it might be safer 🙂

So as I type this it is still 23 c at half past eleven at night..i am going to make a hot chocky (trying to bring my internal and external temps together ) and head to bed.

Have a great Sunday as I head to Monday…..weird isn’t it 🙂

NOTE: THAT BEHIND THE MONDAY I WAS TALKING ABOUT HAS GONE IT’S NOW TUESDAY BWAHAHAAA

OUR FOREST FLOOR IN WINTER

AS MUCH AS I COMPLAIN ABOUT WINTER IT DOES AFFORD A DIFFERENT VIEW ON OUR FOREST FLOOR.

TO EXPLAIN OUR TOPOGRAPHY WE ARE DESCRIBED AS LIVING ON A ROCK REEF.

WE LIVE IN GOLD MINING LAND OF OLD AND AS SUCH THE GEOLOGY IS SLATE,QUARTZ AND SLATE.

THE ABOVE GROUND LAND MASS IS DESCRIBED AS ..

HEATHY DRY FOREST.

THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS IS : GROWS ON SHALLOW,ROCKY SKELETAL SOILS ON A VARIETY OF GEOLOGIES AND ON A RANGE OF LANDFORMS FROM GENTLY UNDULATING HILLS TO EXPOSED ASPECTS ON RIDGE TOPS AND STEEP SLOPES AT A RANGE OF ELEVATIONS .THE OVERSTOREY IS A LOW ,OPEN EUCALYPT FOREST POOR IN FORM TO 20M TALL WITH AN OPEN CROWN COVER.THE UNDERSTOREY IS DOMINATED BY A LOW SPARSE TO DENSE LAYER OF ERICOID-LEAVED SHRUBS INCLUDINH HEATHS AND PEAS.GRAMINOIDS AND GRASSES ARE FREQUENTLY PRESENT IN THE GROUND LAYER,BUT DO NOT PROVIDE MUCH COVER.

PRIMARY OVERSTOREY(TREE SPECIES) IRONBARK,GREY BOX,AND RED STRINGY BARK.

THE GREY BOX BEING A PROTECTED SPECIES IN OUR AREA DUE TO GOLD MINING WIPING OUT SO MANY.

SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THE BATTLE TO GROW A GARDEN,GET A PADDOCK BACK TO HEALTH,DIG A HOLE!!     ALL THE WHILE KEEPING THE INTEGRITY OF THE LANDSCAPE THAT WE LOVE.

SO WHEN THE EARTH HERE SHOWS ME IT’S NATURAL BEAUTY I LOVE TO CAPTURE THE IMAGES..THIS IS NATURE,AND SOME OF IT IS NEW TO HERE AS WE HAVE WORKED THE LAND AND TRIED TO BRING BACK IT’S VITALITY ..BY ADDING BACK TO THE EARTH WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN SOME NATIVE SPECIES RETURN.

WE HAVE PROVED THAT YOU CAN GET YOUR ENVIRONMENT HEALTHY AND HAVE LIVESTOCK AND HAVE DOMESTIC ANIMALS IF YOU TAKE THE APPROPRIATE MEASURES.

THE LAND WILL TAKE A LONGTIME TO BE BACK TO IT’S ORIGINAL FORM. BUT WE ARE TAKING SMALL STEPS AND ARE ALREADY SO THRILLED TO SEE THE CHANGE.
