Remembering what was fought for

I apologise for my lack of blogging folks..it has been bugging me that other things have taken up my time..i will be back and in the thick of it again soon..

Lot’s of exciting things and weird things and scary things happening at one time have been keeping me from being here.

I took a down day today and got into the garden..it has never been so neglected and some weeds were almost as tall as me..i felt ashamed of the state it was in..and the house could do with a good clean as well..anyone who has known me knows this is really not me at all.

So i was so happy to just walk away from the computer, from spending time chasing orders and sorting files and cataloging and framing and printing and driving around like a madwoman.

Time away from Drs appointments of which todays was almost the last straw..another story for another time in another galaxy hopefully far far away..

And of course nature is the place i prefer to hang out in..i can do this because i have the freedom of choice..a freedom that today we remembered was hard fought for by many brave men ,women and animals.

I am sure that when they had our country in their hearts they were thinking of not only the people but the place we live..the ground we call home..the land we rely on and our need to be free to enjoy all that we have.

Every thing we have and hold dear is a gift and should always be appreciated..the large the small the seemingly insignificant ..because many brave souls lost their chance to return to this land..and many who did would never be the same..

Lest we forget ..

Please enjoy some reflective time with me in the garden..i am off to bed…

Just a happy to hop

Forgotten garden

My poor garden has been well neglected these past few months..and before i know it my Irises have bloomed by the dozens and i had almost missed out on their beauty.

Ironic that my photography is all about capturing those beautiful images and yet between computers and practical aspects to getting my images out there for a market place i am losing myself in a less than natural place..

My back is still trying my patience as i found today when wandering the property , trying to manage cameras and gear and being mindful of where i was stepping because of  snake season, well i am paying for it tonight..

But this afternoon as i looked out the window i spotted a stumpy tail..he was happily munching on weeds that have flourished in the barren dirt we laughingly call grass!

I went out and took some shots of him..all the time wondering why i was having a hard time focusing..and why i was having to get so close to him to get what i wanted..it was not until i spotted just how many Irises i had that i realised..i had the micro lens on..seriously..really..good grief..between that and this mornings episode of no sd card in my camera and wondering what was going on!

Yes it appears i have spent so much time on developing my photos that i have been sitting on my brain!

The good thing was that the shots i took of the Irises are lovely..go figure 🙂

So be not afraid..the Stumpy Tail is  NOT  a snake..believe me there is a lens for our Eastern Browns and it is called Brutus! my lovely  500mm telephoto that will keep me at a safe distance!

I have kept the Stumpy Tail pictures to last for folks who freak out over them 🙂 ..the last shot he is headed in a drain pipe i sure hope he comes back out..i have been worried all day! i am sure he will he has a girlfriend who has made a nest under the mulch in my fig garden 🙂

So my garden today..a nice place to get away from technical nightmares..

And a song from my youth that i think is appropriate 🙂

A different view

Hi guys..well the internet war continues..the landlines are back on..one phone though is dead..so needs replacing..hubby talked to the telco’s and they tried to explain the in’s and out’s of what is going on..i am still no clearer..so as i have been going bats over this..it struck me..bats!

Well grey-headed flying foxes to be exact.

These sweet and much maligned creatures live in a colony in Bendigo’s Centennial Park.

Before hubby and i headed to dinner in town for his birthday we went for a stroll  through here..we caught them as they were just starting to stir from their sleep.

I have been meaning to get pictures of them since we moved here so long over due.

The grey -headed flying fox is listed as Vulnerable on our species list. The adults have wingspans up to one metre or 3 feet and weigh in at a kilo or 2.2lb.

Please enjoy going ‘batty’ with me ..

Saying goodbye to boots

Well the weekend was a glorious one to farewell my poor old boots..some people have mentioned they looked pretty good and i agree..sadly looks can be deceiving .

These boots have climbed rocks ,trees and rough terrain in my quest for good photos and in order to wrestle with the bush here..they have jumped fences and given me purchase on the ground when i have had to climb a sheeps back (don’t ask) they have stomped bits of burning bush when burn offs have gone a bit awry and waded through mud when helping out near the dam.

These boots have been at the vets with two snake bites and kicked things in anger when those bites happened. They have run after dogs…cats..and sheep. They have  climbed ladders and helped me paint fences and walls.

They have been with me while i have trimmed and pruned and hacked my way through scrub, they have been in the kitchen preparing meals with me.

They have been under me while i crawl on the ground taking pics of roos they have been there while i have clipped fencing, dug rocks, weeded, watered, walked the dogs moved the sheep and hung the washing.

They have sat with me under gum trees resting my eyes and listening to the bush, they have been by bonfires watching the flames licking the black skies, they have been with me while i fell asleep with the cats in their catio.

They have helped me build gardens, catios, fences, kitchens, pulled up tiles moved soil and gravel and laid turf .

They have been on my feet while i have laughed and joked they have been on my feet when i have sung and danced in the yard, they have been on my feet when i have yelled and cried..they are my boots.

Sadly the soles are paper thin..many miles have been walked in them. They no longer support my ankles and this is a problem with the rough terrain here.

They sadly are no longer safe and yet still look beautiful..worn and with a patina only a hard working boot can have ..and so this weekend i gave them a new purpose.

I selected some sweet violas..with happy little faces and a cheery disposition i carefully filled them with the best of potting mix and planted these flowers within them.

I gave them a position where they can be not only beautiful but can watch as the new boots take over the hard yards..and they did..the start of the fencing for the  veggie garden took us all weekend..i could almost hear my old boots sigh…

My new boots are good and with time will be great and also much loved..for now they are learning the ropes ..they have a long way to go..

Put out to Pasture

The origins of the term ‘Put out to pasture’ refers to old work horses being retired to a pasture to live out their days without working.

Today i have done that..i have ‘Put out to pasture’ my work boots..they are not the first in the 3 years since i have been here..and they shall not be the last..

They will be retired to my garden where they will be filled with soil and grow pansies…they can enjoy being in the garden ..for different reasons..

That’ll do boots..that’ll do ..

A Fozziemums work is never done

Firstly let me apologise for my late replies to you all…I hit a wall and just had to rest…no great drama just lack of hours in the day and by evening when usually I do my blog and catch ups I was nodding off.
It has been all go here..co-ordinating the work that needs to be done..and it seemingly is never ending..
I am trying my hardest to catch up with you all..if I have missed anyone please again forgive me.
Spring it may be but the days have been HOT..making work harder and more tiresome..
We had the ground to prep for turf for the pups..so mega amounts of rotten stones had to be pulled up,soil spread out and the turf laid..this is hand watered twice a day until it sets roots..i have been fence painting and the heat has made this a real chore..when the water of sweat starts running out of my gloves I know its time to stop! I have pulled a mountain of weeds and old irises out from behind the stonewall as they were not working there..these had roots to China! then I attacked a large area of old veggie garden..now this ‘soil’ was like concrete and I decided like an idiot to break it up with a small garden fork and then crush it with the palms of my hands..now hubby cracked it with me..and he was right..i DID hurt myself..so off to the Drs today as I have really nasty tearing pain in my palm when I move my wrist to turn a tap or bend my hand back…so I have Tendonitis..rest he says…arghhh
I don’t need this now..also hubby is preparing the other side of the catio for an above ground pool..more stones being removed and road base down..this needs compacting then sand then the pool guys come on the weekend..i crawled backwards out from the potato bed and grazed my shin..my nails have all had to be cut off and I think I am getting a cold…bwahahhaah..lucky me 🙂
Our son and his wife and their little boy Jason were up on the weekend..Chris has Tendonitis in both his hands at the moment (not good for a drummer ) and so I knew he would help his dad even when he should not be..so I got him and Jason to make my scare crow..today I gave him a wig so he was complete I called him Twerker as the hip action looks hilarious and my Daughter-in-law Amber said it looked like it was Twerking ….
So I am catching up..i am still going to be in and out as for some reason the girls have added to the fun by peeing randomly through the house..just a little rebellion at being no longer free range..but after washing carpets in two rooms and then finding a hallway surprise..well I am working in and out up and down and now with one hand!
So a few pics of the proceedings and I must say I miss you all…sometimes I can quickly pop on FB and say hello..i have school in the morning..i missed a class from being crook so now I am behind on that too..arghhhh…chat soon..Fozziemum..worst blogger ever 😉

Spring and the lizards are enjoying the garden

Well I was pretty excited yesterday..i spotted a Blue tongue lizard while I was making a coffee..grabbed the camera and off I went..he was beautiful..not happy with me bursting in on his sunbathing though…I took some pics..guided him off our driveway and came back in..

Later as I was heading out to the shops I found two Stumpy Tail lizards heading towards the garden..i went and grabbed the camera again and spotted a third one! talk about a busy yard!..

Eventually one of the Stumpies headed off back to the bush…and then this one did the same thing..off through the fence..

Off back to the bush

So later in the evening when I was watering the garden I spotted a small burrow in the sugar cane mulch…

I had a peek and it was the darker Stumpy..but guess what….
Yep this dark Stumpy was not alone….

Baby Stumpy!

So the darker one is a mum! and this little guy was in the burrow with mum..

What a busy busy garden!

Baby was very light in colour so different to mum!

So it seems we have four Stumpies in residence..and because the pups and kitties are all out the back I have no worries about them sharing the garden..i won’t need snail pellets at all now!
Just have to watch for snakes..they all like the same thing..
